A Requiem for Tricia ‘Sissie’ Kurtanick

Well Done,

thou good and faithful servant…

enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.

Matthew 25:21

Love and Go On

You can shed tears that she is gone

or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes

and pray that she’ll come back,

or you can open your eyes

and see all she has left.

Your heart can be empty,

because you can’t see her,

or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow,

and live yesterday;

or you can be happy for tomorrow,

because of yesterday.

You can remember her

and only that she’s gone,

or you can cherish her memory

and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back,

or you can do what she’d want:

smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

A little about me

by Tricia ‘Sissie’ Kurtanick

I’m a Sea Brighter – born & raised! After graduating from High School, I left not only Sea Bright but also my family, friends and most importantly, God.

I left the church at 18

I was confident that I could leave behind God, and everything’d be alright. Boy, was I wrong! Without God in my life, it fell completely apart. I’d figured that I’d be fine, because I was mad at God; after all, it was because of God that my parents were constantly at each other, eventually parting ways. It was God’s fault for all of my other problems, too.

When I moved back into the area, I joined a company that mandated working on Saturdays and Sundays, so needless to say God continued to be absent in my life. I was still mad at Him at that point.

Another 18 years later

My life was still in shambles. I’d no self-respect, nor even respect for anyone else around me, for that matter. While lying in bed on a summer day (my first Sunday off in about 12 years), I heard the summoners’  call of bells pealing from my neighborhood church. Inexplicably, I got up, got dressed and made it to church.

That day changed my life

From that point forward, I developed self-respect, stopped living the life that had pulled me away from God, and started attending church as  my work schedule permitted.

A new life

In February of 2008, I started a new job – one that did not require me to work on Sundays. This in turn allowed me to attend church every Sunday on a regular basis.

Since my return to church, I’ve become a member. I attend Bible Study on a regular basis, and now have become a local Lay Servant. I now perform the first part of the Sunday Service on a regular basis. I also volunteer my time to help out in the church office, and belong to several ministries including Outreach and Nurture. I’m also the superintendent for Sunday School.
